As luck would have it for the citizens of Boom Town, Her Majesty took an interest in “Black Gold”, and planned to visit the little frontier town. Boom Town was in a tizzy, and preparations to receive the Queen were in full swing at Petrolia Discovery Sept. 22nd and 23rd. <br/> <br/> A joint fundraiser for the Lambton Young Theatre Players and Petrolia Discovery, Queen Victoria Visits Boom Town was an outdoor event, and involved a colourful cast of Victorian characters, and of course, Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. <br/> <br/> “It’s such an honour to welcome Queen Victoria to Boom Town,” exclaimed Director, Nancy Keys. “The town’s folk have been very busy getting ready for the royal visit, and an outdoor concert has even been planned. There has been a little opposition from some of the less ‘respectable’ members of the town, but the Mayor of Boom Town has assured us, that matters will be well in hand for Her Majesty’s visit, and nothing will possibly go wrong.” <br/> <br/> Donna McIlmoyle, Manager of Petrolia Discovery, wasn't so sure. “I do have concerns about how Mayor McGillicuddy plans to deal with certain individuals in Boom Town. We’re talking about a fairly rowdy bunch of people, and it would be a terrible shame if anything happened to embarrass the more upstanding citizens of Boom Town, or the Queen. Many residents attended rehearsals and followed the development of the show right up to performance at the Sarnia Public Library Theatre. It was during this time that the concept for THINGS I DID WHEN I WAS A KID! was born. </span> <br/> <br/> <span> “While rehearsing at LMV for THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, the members of LYTP developed relationships with many of the residents who came out to watch them work,” says LINDA SMITH, Board Chair, Lambton Young Theatre Players. “This project allows us to develop those connections, enriching the lives of everyone involved. The young actors are learning how to build and sustain personal relationships across the generations. In July 2011, the Lambton Young Theatre Players brought Alice back to Oil Town! <br/> <br/> </span> </h6> <p> <span> Inspired by the much loved children’s classics, Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, ALICE IN OIL TOWN is a delightful romp that incorporates many of the well-known Alice characters with historical figures and events associated with the Oil Heritage of Lambton County. The Mad Hatter becomes a crazy oil driller, The Queen of Hearts is now the Queen of Derricks, and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum will set you up with everything you need to start pumping oil - rubber gloves included. <br/> <br/> “We’re having a great time rehearsing ALICE IN OIL TOWN,” says Writer and Director, Nancy Keys. “The kids are having a ton of fun with the crazy, colourful characters they get to play, and they’re really enjoying the challenges of physical comedy. The show is fast-paced, funny and very entertaining!
